Meet Steven Maarbani
Steven is a corporate lawyer and a former PwC partner specialising in venture capital and private equity, M&A, alternative finance and the commercialisation of technology. He holds a Masters of Law from the University of Sydney, is the Managing Director of Maarbani Consulting and the Fund Manager of the Taronga Group’s Real Tech Venture Fund.
Experience & Skill Set
Steven’s clients included a number of prominent Australian and international fund managers, venture capital and private equity firms, crowdfunding platforms and university commercialisation arms. He advised on the establishment of new managed funds, structures for alternative finance businesses (including crowdfunding) as well as identifying and helping to structure acquisitions of portfolio assets.
He is known to challenge conventional fund structures and to help fund manager clients to embrace new ways of raising funds. Steven also brings his understanding of venture capital and private equity investment criteria to assist emerging technology companies seeking to grow or to raise capital, including preparing for an implementing an IPO.
Steven has written a number of articles on, and is regularly called upon to give specialist advice in relation to, tax-free fund structures including ESVCLPs & VCLPs, crowdfunding strategies and other alternative finance models.
He also led PwC’s annual national venture capital market briefing titled ‘The Future of Venture Capital’ with leading Australian and international fund managers.
